SEVENTY48 2019 – Paddle On

After a night of paddling and a quick break to rest, the NC Kayaks teams are back on the water, heading toward Port Townsend! Along the way, the teams reported encountering a shooting star and phosphorescent algae, which made for an amazing first leg of the race. Around 11:30PM last night, the teams reached Lisabuela on Vashon Island and took a well-deserved break.

Feeling refreshed, they hit the water again and headed to Blake Island (roughly halfway between Vashon and Bainbridge Islands). As you can see, the fog has been pretty thick this morning, but with any luck they’ll be paddling under clear skies in no time:

Saturday Evening Update

The NC Kayaks teams have checked in a handful of times over the course of the day. They’ve been consistently ahead of their estimated schedule, and are feeling great! They’ve stopped in Hansville, WA for an extended break, and will be hitting the water before too long to finish the up last leg of the race. Shoutout to Peninsula Pies in Hasville, one of the NC teams’ favorite spots to stop during long kayaking trips:

Shoutout to Peninsula Pies!

Our next update will be from the finish line in Port Townsend tomorrow, so check back then! And speaking of the finish line, congrats to Team Imua for finishing the race in just under 11 hours!

Winners! Congrats Team Imua! 10 hours 49 minutes! Greg Spooner from Bainbridge Island and Thiago Silva from Brazil! @ Northwest Maritime Center
