WA360 2025: Day Four

Day 4 Goal Map:

When we said that we were going to get an early start today? We didn’t take into account how much the heat took out of us as we set up camp. We were pretty good on the water, but hauling gear up the beach in the hot sun was pretty draining. We also realized we were getting low on water, and we weren’t sure where we would be able to resupply if we caught the morning flood through the Narrows. With warm temperatures in the forecast, water was an important resource today.

When the 2:30am alarm went off, we realized how much we had asked of ourselves the day before. We decided it would be wiser to rest and catch the evening flood. We knew that meant we wouldn’t hit our mileage goals for the day, but that was a fair trade.

We packed up just before the campsite was in full sun this morning and brought the gear and boats to the water’s edge. It was a lot more carrying heavy things in the hot sun, so we were glad that we were paddling just 6 nmi to Owen Beach.

We took a long break at Owen and filled our water supply. We Door Dashed lunch and waited for the water to be going our way.

Favorable currents and mostly light winds got us to our campsite for the night quickly. We set up camp, ate a snack, and we’re turning in for an early start tomorrow. We’re hoping to catch the flood to Olympia in the morning.
