The plan for Day Seven is to travel from Oak Harbor, check off our next waypoint at Goat Island, and through the Swinomish Slough to Saddlebag Island.
Leg One: Oak Harbor to LaConner (via Goat Island)
We are hoping for a nice, early start from Oak Harbor. Our goal is to get to La Conner before the current in the Swinomish Slough turns against us. That will allow for us to take a nice, leisurely break in La Conner before the current goes in our favor again.
Leg Two: La Conner to Saddlebag Island
Once the current is in our favor again, we’ll head for Saddlebag Island. Internet research indicates that it tends to fill up, since it’s such a short trip from Anacortes. We’re hoping that our arrival on a Sunday evening will keep at least one spot for us to camp for the night.
Our total mileage will be slightly lower than average, but we’ll still be on track if we can meet our goals for the day.
